Title: Painters RA:
A guide to
the painter members of the Royal Academy of Arts with
examples of their work
Author: Dennis Toff
List price: £12.99

Description: The public, 150,000
of whom visit the Summer Exhibition at Burlington House
each year, tend to know only a few of the painters whose
work they view and admire. What started as a personal
project, photographing a few artists whose work Toff
admired developed into a major undertaking when he
realised that because no single painting or series of
images had been produced which attempted to include all
of any current membership or group of Painter RAs since
George Dance’s drawings of 1793, there was an
opportunity to do so once again. This book brings
together photographs taken by the author of each Painter
RA alongside a painting to represent them and a short
biography.
Author: Dennis Toff trained at the
School of Photography, Regent Street Polytechnic (now
Westminster University) in 1942 and served in the
photographic branch of the Fleet Air Arm during World
War II. He left photography in 1950 to pursue a
successful business career returning to photography on
retirement in 1993.
Denis Toff has work in the collections of the National
Portrait Museum, The London Jewish Museum and is a
Fellow of the Royal Photographic Society.
